Fright Night

Two weeks ago was Halloween, for which I finally got to dress up and scare people!!! Heheheh!!! It's been more than two weeks now and before it starts to become too embarrassing to post photos of my Halloween look, I decided to share them today!

Actually I wanted to dress up for Halloween for a long time now; however, there were always other important things that came up or no one wanted to join me. This year I got the opportunity to dress up with my husband, who loved the idea! In fact he even suggested to dress up and do a surprise scare visit to his sister :) !!! Of course I happily agreed!!!

We both didn't want to spend too much on elaborate costumes, so we just got a few accessories to create our looks.

I dressed up as Lady Black Widow Spider. I am actually really scared of spiders and have a big phobia pf those 8-legged creatures. However, my mom suggested to me that to overcome this phobia, I am even scared of tiny ones or photos of them, I should observe spiders and their behaviour, draw them, look at their photos ad perhaps even get one as a pet! Well, I am not going to go to that extreme...not yet at least ;) but I did purchase a really cute spider hat!!! It is a small black top hat designed with red shiny spiderwebs on it!!! Then sitting on top of it is a relatively big furry spider with red sparkly eyes and there is a black feather coming out as well!!! I couldn't resist this hat!!! Very adorable!!! So this is how my look for Halloween was developed!!!

Instantly I had to have matching spider earrings! They were really cute too. At the top there is a spiderweb and then handing lower down is the spider, as if it is an actual spider on his web! Then I also got a black gothic choker necklace with black stone pendant and black lace gloves with some black beading. Then to finish off my gothic creepy spidery look I got dramatic black eyelashes and decorative black with silver and red tattoo for my face!

So I wore all there accessories with a long black and reddress that I have had for a long time now! It was perfect for my gothic Lady Black Widow Spider look!!! The dress is black with red little flowers on it!!!

So I kept my make-up very Halloween-ish. I used baby powder to make my face white and did heavy black gothic eye make-up. My look was finished with red lipstick and red nails. Then I did my hair in one sided braid so as to show off my spider earrings and not to look too cluttered.

My husband decided to be Lord Dracula,  aka the most scariest vampire in London! He got vampire make up kit and painted his face himself!!! He also got special vampire teeth to complete his creepy look! Then he wore a long black Cape as well!!! He then got long scary fingers and painted the nails with black nail varnish and wore them as well!!! He dressed all in black!!! In fact he really got into his vampire character and kept doing scary faces all the time :) !!!

When we waked we also had with us a mini lantern that we lighted with a candle!!! We looked very dramatic and creepy couple together hehehehhe!!! So with our Halloween looks complete, we went to my husband's sister!!! It was so much fun walking around streets of London all dressed up!!! Some other people were also dressed up going to parties and clubs or just scaring passers-by! It really felt festive...in a creepy fun sort of way!

Earlier that day we also went into one of my favourite French patisseries in London and got some mini cakes and pastries in Halloween style! I particularly loved the spider cake!!! :)

So when we came to my husband's sister's house we knocked and waited. She didn't know we were coming and scared her! It was fun!!!

Then we also dressed her up!!! Her Halloween look was a Purple Fairy Witch!!! We painted her face white and lips purple and stuck purple feather lashes to her eyelids.  Then to complete the Fairy Witch look we put a headband with feathery purple cute bats!!!!! His sister also wore a purple top to match her purple accessories!!!! Needless to say she loved our surprise and the whole dress up!!!

After taking pictures and calling friends on Skype and scaring neighbours, we finally sat down for a cup of tea with scarily delicious cakes!!!

So this was our first Halloween in London, which I hope will turn into a lovely tradition every year. After all, it's not every day that we get to dress up like funky and cool vampires, witches and spiders !!!

My Black Little Dress

My Black Little Dress

By Sima Pokhrel

Black little dress can be chick and elegant,
Will make anyone look slimmer even an elephant.
Combine it with funky bright coloured accessories,
So the outfit seems glamorous as that of the fairies.

Wear it with scarves, hats or elaborate shoes,
Anything really, it depends on your views.
My personal favourite is a golden head band,
A gift from my sister who’s in fact my best friend.

Off to work I go in my black little dress,
Jewellery, heels, all ready to impress.
Classical make-up, glamorous hair and natural look,
For a runway model I may be easily mistook.

The dress code at work is strict and boring,
Have to wear formal attire every morning.
Keeping these guidelines well in my mind,
I fashion my dresses with what I can find.

Best thing I love about my black little dress,
Is its square cut and decoration with lace.
Short cap sleeves add a cute playful touch,
The length is short but not too much.

Confidence and charm is what this dress gives,
Can wear it in summer’s heat or among autumn leaves.
Always stylish in any season or time,
Even in cold days or when weather is fine.

So before disregarding the idea of black dress,
Consider how it adds elegance and grace.
It becomes any girl with any type of waist,
As long as it is fashioned with immaculate taste.

The Woman in Black

Last Friday, which was Friday 13th, me and my husband decided to watch something scary and so we went to see The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theater in London. I have not read the book but have seen the movie, the one starring Daniel Radcliff. Even though the movie is a bit scary for me, I love it anyway. It has a good story line, gothic Victorian setting and spooky house- ideal ingredients for a mysterious ghost story! So I was looking forward to the play a lot!

For this occasion, my husband went for something blue. His choice was casual shirt with black trousers!

He has never been to a theater in London, so he was really excited about seeing a ghost story being performed on stage!!!

Me, on the other hand, decided to add a little gothic/vintage touch to my elegant white dress with black polka dots using chunky metallic chain necklace and a headband decorated with black flowers with white polka dots.

I accessorized my look with a black clutch bag and white open toe heels!

Due to our excitement we got to the theater venue early and so we waited in the bar area inside the theater and purchased a cute mini box of treats, which contained a small bottle of Rose, chocolate buttons, potatoe crisps and voucher for ice cream during the interval!!! We also got a program, which contains details regarding the play, actors and director's notes.

Cheers everyone!!!

The following photos were taken from the official website, The Woman in Black, as no photography was allowed inside the auditorium. Needless to say, the play was fantastic and scary! We both enjoyed it a lot. It had humour, mystery and a ghostly woman in black! The performance was done by two actors only, with the exception of the woman, on a small stage with limited props. Nevertheless, the ghostly and creepy atmosphere was very well conveyed!!! We were not disappointed!!!

TGIF

So, yesterday was finally Friday and the end of another hard working week. However, that particular Friday was rather uneventful and I admit it, boring. So what happens to my brain on days like that, when there is not much to do at work and there is no interesting book around to serve as a distraction? I decided to write a funny rhyming poem!

Currently, I am actually busy planning another wedding celebration but this time in Turkey and so I chose this as the topic for my poem. As mentioned previously in my blog, I recently got married and my husband is Turkish. So our wedding celebration in London was small, private and very intimate. However, not all of our family members and friends could come, mainly because majority of them live abroad. So it was decided we do another bigger wedding celebration in Turkey, which apparently is one of the most exotic, culturally and historically rich destinations to get married, according to TripAdvisor.com.

Before I reveal my poem, a few things must be known. Firstly, so far it has been a little too hectic to find a beautiful venue on a budget for 150-200 people. Then the search for a quality photographer has been fruitless as well and so I have an idea of asking the same photographer, Jack Hoyle, who shot our wedding in London to shoot our wedding in Turkey. Crazy, right?

So without any further delay, with all those details I have mentioned above, here is my hopefully humourous almost effectively rhyming poem :). I have never written anything like that, only in school and so in some parts the rhyming gets a little quirky....

My Big Wedding Day

by Sima Pokhrel

Weddings are fun, weddings are crazy,
Now it’s my turn, and I feel lazy.
There’s so much to plan, so much to spend,
I’ll be asking my mom, to give me a hand.

My loved one is Turkish, so you know what that means,
Large wedding and glamorous, with no one in jeans.
Lots of food and loud music and dancing,
Gents in tuxes, ladies in dresses flouncing.

So much to do, seems I haven’t the time,
To design, this grand wedding of mine.
Throw away my laziness once and for all,
Should research some venues and book a grand hall.

The wedding photographer is at least sorted,
On a plane to Turkey will Jack be boarded.
Next difficult thing is to find a good man,
Who can record a video, be it sun or rain.

Cocktails, reception, food to consider,
Has to be classy, nothing with ginger.
Garlic and onion are also omitted,
Nothing strong smelling will be permitted.

For dessert I would want a gigantic cake,
So there’s plenty for everyone, even that Jack.
The cake must be chocolate, fruity and rich,
It should be kept cold in the restaurant fridge.

Designing flowers, music and favours,
All to please mixed cultural flavours.
For even though the wedding is totally mine,
Considering other opinions in not a crime.

Belarus, Turkey, India, Nepal,
The wedding feast will not be dull.
Live music, drinks and general cheer,
Will bring all guests closer and near.

Most wonderful thing on the wedding banquet,
Will be me, throwing my fresh flower bouquet.
This, single ladies and gents will try to catch,
But my sister’s reflex will be hard to match

After assessing my big wedding plan,
I realised that, it’s all too grand.
My wallet is empty, and I haven’t a cent,
The only option will be to lend.

So I talked to my father about this subject,
At which he smiled, said he wouldn’t object.
Now finances sorted, and I can happily start,
To pick my bridal gown that’ll look really smart.

Beautiful, elegant, youthful and fun,
Those must I feel in my own wedding gown.
But comfort and style should be remembered,
So my dancing remains completely unhindered.

All details and bookings are finally done,
So I can gladly relax and enjoy the fun.
Planning my wedding wasn’t so tough,
As long as you’re doing, what you love.

The End

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cat Encounters

Today is pretty much a regular rainy Saturday in London, where the weather seems to be playing tricks with people. The minute I look out the window, it is sunny and lovely outside and I start to think of postponing my chores and house cleaning related activities. Then, literally a few minutes later, it is drizzling heavily so that I have to shut the windows in my room.

On days like these, back home where my parents live, I would normally occupy myself with chasing cats around the house trying to catch and snuggle them (my parents love cats and have 5! :)). However, not all their cats appreciate my cuddles and so they run and hide from me, which makes it even more fun and challenging to search for them or to trick them into coming towards me.

However, here in London I can only enjoy company of street cats or neighbours’ cats. Since I am forced to stay indoors for the day due to the rain, I decided to upload photos of all the different cat encounters I have had for the past year in London (house cleaning can wait!). I have mentioned before that I happen to live in a very cat populated neighborhood of London, so when it is nice and sunny outside, one can see cats almost everywhere, to my great delight! Naturally I have to pick them up and give them my warmest hugs :) !

In the photo below, I am cuddling one of neighbor's cat. She is quite friendly and most often then not she appreciates my company!

This cheeky and very moody lady is not as sweet as she looks...after the photo she bit me! It seems to me she was looking for some male company and I happened to disturb her.

This fellow is just pretending to dislike me, but in fact he is a big lover of my hugs :) !!! He lives only a few houses away from me, so anytime I go out, I make sure to pass by his place to say hello!

This lady is very lazy and simply adorable! She lets me to pick her up anytime I am around and never seems to mind my embraces.

Then, in the photo below I happen to be wearing black coat and black trousers with a furry white scarf...and I met this black and white buddy on my way to the library. He looked so charming and so in style with me I could not just pass him by.

I love this ginger cat I met one day in my local park! I like to call him Romeo. He is very fluffy and quite big and very very kind. My hands were naturally drawn to him immediately when I saw him strolling near me. My husband kept warning me that the cat several times showed his long nails to me...but my love for ginger cats ignored the nails. Even if he did scratch, which he did not, the hug I gave him was worth it!

Me and my Romeo!

Then, my trip to the local post office was highlighted by the presence of Her Majesty...she probably was in a very bad mood that day and kept hissing at me even though my hands never came within her reach. She purposely turned away from the camera and that time I did listen to my husband's advice...to leave her alone...

Another bad tempered cat that I met on my way to the GP. She actually lives either in that building or in the house next to it. I see her every time there and every time she refuses to be touched...and yet she keeps rubbing herself against my legs...

...however, I did manage to pick her up one day and she was not pleased...

Have a great weekend !!!
